PrimeTime hosted its third ever futsal tournament in Carrollton, Texas at the REAL Soccer Center this past weekend.
After the success of moving an outdoor tournament indoors due to weather conditions in the spring, PrimeTime decided to offer a summer series of futsal events.
FC Dallas Youth takes on GSSC Thunder at REAL Soccer Center in Carrollton
With the league season rapidly coming upon us, and temperatures still reaching the 100 degree range, an indoor tournament was just the answer.
“It was a great way to keep teams out of the heat,” said PrimeTime Assistant Director of Soccer Dom Falcinelli. “The atmosphere for the players, coaches and parents was great.”
For many of the 11 local teams and 100-plus athletes, this was their first experience with futsal — a form of soccer developed in Brazil during the ‘30s and ‘40s.
Played mostly indoors on turf or a hard court, futsal features five players per team — four outfielders and a goalie. The rules are very similar to outdoor soccer, except the field is only 30-yards by 15-yards. There is also no “offside” rule in futsal.
Each team this past weekend played four games, two on Saturday and two on Sunday, with the champions receiving trophies.
FC Dallas Youth took both the girls U-9 division crown and the boys’ U-10 championship, completing the weekend sweep. Second place finishers were the Dallas Texans and GSSC Thunder.
